A Dying Man's Last Wishes
29
May 2005 • Charles Cooper
Not long ago, a dying man’s testimony was taken as true. The fear of hell
compelled men to tell the truth at death, thus carrying to the grave one last
good deed. However, with the fear of spending eternity in hell dismissed, a death-bed
confession is no longer sacrosanct. 2 Timothy is Paul’s near death-bed
confession. What shall we say of his wishes?

Thanksgiving
5 Jun 2005 • Charles Cooper
In 2 Timothy 1:3 Paul writes “I thank God... as I constantly
remember you in my prayers...” as he recounts his relationship
with Timothy. Giving thanks for other people and having others thankful
for you is a two-way street; circumstances and daily events make it well-traveled.
But little or no traffic is a serious indicator for the need for street
repair. God’s designs for a thankful heart.

A Stoked Spirit Defeats
Fear
12 Jun 2005 • Charles Cooper
A man's leg with foot attached fell from a flight landing
at JFK. Authorities later found the remains of a man in
the landing gear. One can only wonder if the man was afraid
to attempt such a journey. One inescapable fact is this:
fear did not keep the man from trying. Fear keeps many believers
from accomplishing God's perfect will for their lives. Defeat
fear in your life.

God
at Work in the Dark Places
19 Jun 2005 • Scott Holmgren
Shame and suffering are part of life. They are part of the
stark reality of our day-to-day. They’re usually things
we try and avoid, and certainly we don’t talk about
them. But God does. 2 Timothy 1 puts these dark places of
life into perspective.

Degrees of Separation
26 Jun 2005 • Scott Holmgren
With so many things in life, it’s not necessarily
what you know that matters, but who
you know. Relationships are what tie us into a network of
friends and family that sustain us through the ups and downs
of life. Paul writes to his “son” in the faith
of the importance of one relationship in particular. And
how that relationship holds value beyond our imagination!

God's Pirates
3 Jul 2005 • Scott Holmgren
You wouldn’t usually speak of the Apostle Paul and
Captain Jack Sparrow in the same breath. However, let's
feel the sand between our toes, taste the warm Caribbean
salt air, and begin to understand the passion we should
have for a treasure worth far more than Spanish gold.

Daily Choice: Desserts
or Disaster
10 Jul 2005 • Charles Cooper
As a follower of Jesus Christ, every day we must make the
choice to faithfully follow or compromise our commitment.
Thus, at any given moment, we are experiencing the desserts
of faithfulness or the disaster of a temporary failure.
Regardless, every day calls for another choice.

The Power to Live
Sucessfully
17 Jul 2005 • Charles Cooper
The hardest hurdle to cross in the Christian life is the
energy question: Will I attempt to faithfully follow Christ
utilizing human strength or divine grace? One leads to frustration
and failure. The other leads to peace and success. Let’s
discover why!

Chain of Evidence
24 Jul 2005 • Charles
Cooper
An individual’s salvation is never in question. That
is, God has elected certain individuals to salvation and
those people will be saved. However, who God will use as
His human instruments is left to our obedience. I wonder
how many opportunities I have missed? Discover why sharing
our faith is so important!

It's Not Just A Job
31 Jul 2005 • Scott Holmgren
The reality of living the Christian life is a daily experience.
It touches every facet of our lives. But do I understand
my role as one who walks with Christ? What I should get
involved in, and what I should avoid? Are there guidelines
I must follow and issues I must raise? And what’s
the point of it all? Does God care about all our questions?
Yes! Discover three practical illustrations that help us
explore the adventure of being in Christ.

Chosen
7 Aug 2005 • Scott Holmgren
Perhaps never in the history of the world have a people
had so much freedom of choice as do we, twenty-first century
Americans. Personalization and customization are at the
heart of just about every experience we can imagine. Each
day we make hundreds of choices that affect the littlest
things we do, and sometimes the biggest things. But Paul
reminds us of another choice that affects us in the greatest
way of all.

Truth & Consequences
14 Aug 2005 • Scott Holmgren
Don’t you hate it when you know you’re being
sold something? When statements, facts, and opinions are
“pre-packaged” in a certain way to get you to
buy into something? That’s why it’s so refreshing
when you come across a statement that is unashamedly trustworthy
and authentic. The Apostle Paul explains that God has four
trustworthy statements for you and for me. God’s truth
can transform not only the way we think but the way we live!

Words: Priceless
or Worthless?
21 Aug 2005 • Charles Cooper
Your conduct as a believer is shaped by whether you engage
in priceless words or worthless words.

Tough Times for Godly
Women
28 Aug 2005 • Charles Cooper
As the days grow more wicked, women will suffer as objects
of the wicked’s intent. Godly women will need to exercise
great discernment when listening to the popular preachers
of the day. The wicked will prey upon women who are not
grounded in God’s Word.

A Tale of Three Cities
4 Sep 2005 • Scott Holmgren
The place where you grew up is most likely a vivid picture
in your mind. Just the mention of a town, street, or neighborhood
can conjure up names, faces, memories, hurts, and celebrations.
That's exactly how Paul communicates some vivid truths about
overcoming failures and living a life centered in God's
truth. It's a message of stark contrasts to the way God
describes the world around us.

In Toto
11 Sep 2005 • Scott Holmgren
Although Latin is referred to as a "dead language"
there are a plethora of Latin phrases that pepper our everyday
English: bona fide, in vitro, per capita, and et cetera
to name a few. The words "In Toto" are Latin for
"in total" or "completely" and are a
good place to begin - with a dead language - to introduce
us to the living Word.

Autumnal Equinox
18 Sep 2005 • Scott Holmgren
This Thursday, the calendar tells us, is the beginning of
Autumn. And there are certain feelings and mindsets we identify
with different seasons as they come and go. Our Creator
God put these timely changes in place and so it's only natural
that He's got something to say about our lives in light
of them.

Patterns to Practice
25 Sep 2005 • Charles
Cooper
Nothing is more difficult for humans to do than "to
keep on keeping on" when the fun has stopped. Paul
offers us one last motivation to be faithful in preaching
the gospel. Few will take the challenge. To be among the
few, we must do three things. Look or listen: the reward
is worth it.
